Norfolk Southern's Virginia Beach Branch carried freight between Norfolk and Virginia Beach until the line was shuttered in the early 2000s. Since then, a portion has been converted into trackage for The Tide light rail system and the remainder has sat unused for over two decades. The rail line will almost certainly never see a train again as it slowly crumbles into the ground that's supported it for over 100 years. The city of Virginia Beach has plans to convert these rails into a multipurpose trail in the coming years, so the days seems to be numbered for the Virginia Beach Branch.
Note: These rails are not *technically* abandoned. Always be cautious when observing or exploring unused/abandoned rails and respect private property.
