A trip to Kanagawa and Ooyama that will shake your heart
I went exploring Mt. Oyama in Isehara City, Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan. Altitude: 1,252 meters. This sacred mountain, which has a history of more than a thousand years and is shrouded in faith and mystery, is not just a mountain trail, but a journey to purify the soul. Every time I take a step forward, the world changes color. First up is Ooyamaji Temple. What spreads out there is a landscape of autumn leaves that looks like the last glimmer of life before it burns out. The red and gold leaves that cover the temple grounds dance in the wind, coloring the stone pavement. The only sounds in the silence are the faint chanting of sutras and the whisper of the wind.

Ooyama and feel its charm in your soul, even from a faraway place.
The mystery of Mt. Ooyama, where a thousand years of prayers live on
Ooyama is not just a mountain. In the past, this area was known as ``Rainfall Mountain,'' and was believed to be the place where the god of rain rested. The name Afuri Shrine comes from the word ``Afuri'' (rainfall), and ``Oyama Pilgrimage'' was popular during the Edo period. People guided by their faith dressed in white robes and walked long distances to pray on this mountain. The sight of a weary traveler taking a sip of sacred water to purify his mind and body is still vivid in this place.
In autumn, the leaves at Ooyamaji Temple turn a fiery color, and at night the light from lanterns drifts through the leaves.
