Paddling the Adirondack 7 carries canoe route. An Adirondack classic. This historic seven carries canoe route embodies everything I love about the Adirondacks. Pristine waters, mountain views, fresh air, an abundance of wildlife, and mostly... solitude.
Our journey begins on the campus of Paul Smiths.... the legendary College of the Adirondacks. We’ll navigate our way across 3 majestic lakes... and pond hop our way through 6 of the most beautiful... remote ponds... you’ll ever lay eyes on.
After paddling across Lower St Regis Lake and through a connecting wetland we enter Spitfire Lakepass through a narrow channel into Upper St Regis Lake towards our first canoe carry of the day - where the real fun begins.
After a short carry to Bear Pond... we enter the Saint Regis Canoe Area and pond hop to Little Long Pond East... then to Green Pond... before heading to the heart of the area... St Regis Pond.
In 5 hours we covered roughly 10 miles of woods and water. Paddling across Little Clear Pond... was a perfect way to end our trip. There are many great ways to enjoy the Adirondacks... but there are not many ways better than paddling the historic 7 carries route.
