Oregon Coast Jetty fishing for BIG rockfish (black sea bass) This has to be the best jetty fishing setup or jetty fishing rig i've used so far, whether i'm fishing newport jetty, barview jetty, florence, winchester bay jetty, etc. I caught 14 giant black rockfish on 1 bait!!
I normally have two jetty fishing setups for rockfish, one being a simple curly tail grub run on a 1/2oz-1oz jig head or running plastic baits on a Texas rig. The Texas rig/Weedless rig is usually my go-to for running my gear through rocks without having to worry about snagging up so much and lets you keep your bait along the bottom.
Recently i have been using swimbaits and it has opened a door for some big fish! I don't know if i have just been in the right place at the right time or if it's these swimbaits that i have been using. If you have seen any of my recent videos lately, you will see that i have been fishing with the Storm Wildeye Swim Shad, usually in the 5-6" size, which is 5/8oz & 7/8oz and they have been a KILLER! They ARE one of the more lifelike looking swimbaits that i've used but whatever it is, it's working.
I had been planning this coastal rock fishing trip for a few weeks, waiting for a good window of weather, wind, and tides. The conditions in this area usually keep it from being able to be fished comfortably and correctly. There was a STRONG incoming tide and wind blowing from my back, my favorite for jetty fishing when fishing oceanside, not so much for fishing IN the jetty channel.
I decided to start out this coastal fishing session with one of my new go-to's, a 5" Storm Wildeye Swim shad (Bunker pattern) and i have to say it didn't take long to get my first strike. The craziest thing about this day is i brought a variety of swimbaits to try out on the jetty that day but i managed to keep the same swimbait on for ALL FISH! which is pretty nuts considering how many fish i pulled in and how many times i got snagged up on a rock. I ended this day with 15 fish caught (one didn't make it on film since i dropped it in the rocks) and kept my last fish to make my limit of 6.
2 WEEKS AFTER FILMING THIS VIDEO ODFW LOWERED THE DAILY BAG LIMIT OF ROCKFISH FROM 6 TO 5 Due to increased catches and overall amount of pressure being put on these fish this season.
ALWAYS CHECK REGS BEFORE HEADING OUT SINCE THEY DO CHANGE
