Being a super spiritual person does not make you good. It' doesn't make you better than anyone else. it doesn't make you godly. Does that surprise you? Offend you?
This is the strong warning given throughout the Bible, and it behooves us all to take heed. Corry Pensabene welcomes Pastor Jory Petitti of Hobble Creek Baptist Church in Springville Utah. Together they consider the implications of Colossians 2:16-23, and pursue the answers to some of these questions:
What is ascetcism?
It seems that Paul is stating that anything not focused on Christ is to be avoided. How do we see this happening in Christian churches today? Why is this so alarming? Why is this "disqualifying?"
If we insist on chaining ourselves to these laws is it considered a self made religion? Why does Paul insist that these practices have no value in stopping the indulgences of the flesh? What does allow us to stop these indulgences?
