TODAY'S EPISODE:
Welcome to the Daily Radio Bible podcast. Today, we're journeying through day 56 in our Bible reading adventure, and I'm your host, Hunter. Together we'll explore the sacred pages of Scripture, where we'll warm ourselves by the fires of God's love and presence. Today’s readings will take us through Numbers chapters 17 and 18, Psalm 29, and culminate in Mark chapter 4. We will discover the stories of ancient Israel and the lessons from Jesus' parables, where he challenges us to listen and truly receive the kingdom of God. Join us as we broadcast the seeds of God's word, inviting you to open your heart and respond to His life-giving message. So, take a moment, settle in, and let this be a time of reflection and inspiration for your day. Remember, my friends, you are loved. Let's dive into the Word together.
TODAY'S DEVOTION:
A Farmer went out to sow some seed. Broadcasting. The word "broadcast" may seem like a modern term, but it's actually rooted in agriculture and fishing. The sower was casting abroad the seed. He was broadcasting. A fisherman casts his net broadly. The word broadcast is a descriptive and practical word. We broadcast. We throw out a large net of words and ideas in hopes of gathering up as many as we can into the vortex of that message. We do that knowing that it's only going to be specific groups of people that are going to receive, understand, and respond to the message being communicated.
In today's reading, we see that a certain kind of readiness of heart, a disposition of spirit, is evident in order to receive, understand, and respond to God’s life-giving message. Jesus says we need to have ears to hear because static abounds. Satan lurks. Our desires get in the way. So much prevents us from actually hearing, receiving, and responding to God.
There's an old oriental proverb that states, "When the student is ready, the teacher will arrive." It beautifully captures what Jesus is saying to us here. He's letting us know that there is a certain disposition of heart that's evident in order to receive the good news of God's kingdom and perceive what God is seeking to do among His people. These receptors, if you will, are not really a product of our virtue or our piety; rather, they are most often a product of our brokenness, of our failure. A humble, contrite, and broken heart— that seems to be the heart that is truly ready. There's something about a broken heart that opens up our ears to understand the broadcasted message of God.
Today, if you hear His voice, a voice that says, "I am with you," don't harden your heart. Respond. Let Him heal. Let Him mend. Let Him sit with you right where you are, right where you're at.
That's a prayer that I have for my own soul. That's a prayer that I have for my family, for my wife, and my daughters, and my son. And that's a prayer that I have for you. May it be so.
TODAY'S PRAYERS:
Lord God Almighty and everlasting father you have brought us in safety to this new day preserve us with your Mighty power that we might not fall into sin or be overcome by adversity. And in all we do, direct us to the fulfilling of your purpose through Jesus Christ Our Lord amen.
Oh God you have made of one blood all the peoples of the earth and sent your blessed son to preach peace to those who are far and those who are near. Grant that people everywhere may seek after you, and find you. Bring the nations into your fold, pour out your Spirit on all flesh, and hasten the coming of your kingdom through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.
And now Lord, make me an instrument of your peace. Where there is hatred let me sow love. Where there is injury, pardon. Where there is doubt, faith. Where there is despair, hope. Where there is darkness, light. And where there is sadness, Joy. Oh Lord grant that I might not seek to be consoled as to console. To be understood as to understand, to be loved as to love. For it is in the giving that we receive, in the pardoning that we are pardoned, it is in the dying that we are born unto eternal life. Amen
And now as our Lord has taught us we are bold to pray...
Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven, give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our tresspasses as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not unto temptation, but deliver us from evil, for thine is the Kingdom and the power and...
