Let's get this out to as many aspiring dancers as possible!! I know, training seriously can be difficult when you aren't even sure you have what it takes. I made this marathon of a video to serve as a comprehensive guide for anyone who looks at professional dancers on Instagram or Pointe Magazine and hasn't been able to see a more encouraging, inclusive, bigger picture.
To be clear, very high standards do exist beyond the minimums I shared, and very few dancers are born with the kind of body that will get them onto the world's biggest stages. Some of the minimum standards I shared in the video are defined by what can be seen at small to mid-sized companies in the US. Lastly, I must give the disclaimer that there will always be dancers who prove to be exceptions to these standards.
If you don't feel like you have a "dancers body" PLEASE remember that dancing for a paycheck is NOT a one-way ticket to happiness! In fact, many dancers who continue to dance recreationally into their adulthood are incredibly fulfilled in their dance journey! Dance because it makes you feel alive - not inadequate.
