In Episode 3 of Gone But Not Forgotten in association with HPCL we chart the history of the Premier Padmini . We start with the 1955 Fiat 1100 that kicked off the journey and then the 1957 Fiat 1100 E whose centre light gave the car the nickname of Dukkar Fiat. A quick run through the Super Select and then we go for a drive in the Fiat 1100 Delight. In 1973 came the Premier President which was renamed Premier Padmini a year later and also got a detuned engine for fuel efficiency — we take that for a drive. We also show you the rarest Padmini of them all, the Starline Safari, an estate built on the Padmini Drive Away Chassis. We feature one of the most iconic Fiats in Indian Motorsport, the Group 2 race car built for Vijay Mallya in the UK and now restored by Vicky Chandhok. Finally we drive the last of the line Padmini S1 before concluding with a quick run through of Premier Automobile Limited's partnership with Fiat for the 118 NE, Uno, Siena and Palio, Peugeot for the 309, and finally the Premier Rio whose body came from China and was India’s first diesel compact SUV.
Drop in your memories of the Fiat 1100 and Premier Padmini in the comments below, we will love to hear about it.
