FIDM Storytelling through Costume Design Lecture

Video Not Working? Fix It Now

Costume design is as integral to filmmaking as writing, set design, and direction. A costume designer must know the story and become intimately acquainted with the characters—their backgrounds, emotions, and what drives them. After meticulous research, they put their vision together with drawings, inspiration, and swatches, and present it to the director, scriptwriter, and often the actors. Their ultimate goal is to take the audience on a compelling emotional journey through texture, style, silhouette, and color—that plays its true part in perfect storytelling. Watch an FIDM panel hosted by Nick Verreos, FIDM Fashion Design Co-Chair, as we discuss the idea of “Storytelling Through Costume Design” with FIDM Alumni and world renowned costume designers Trish Summerville, Jill Ohanneson, and Mandi Line.
