The big question leading up to the CFP title game is whether or not Notre Dame will stay in their traditional Cover 1 man-to-man defense against the juggernaut Ohio State offense. In this film study I show you a play from the Sugar Bowl where the Fighting Irish disguised their coverage against Georgia. The Bulldogs run a vertical route concept and end up forcing a defensive pass interference by attacking the man coverage on the outside. Then in the Rose Bowl, Ohio State runs the same concept for a touchdown by attacking deep middle against Oregon's Cover 2 zone look. Same route concept, two different results depending on which coverage is played. It will be interested to see if Al Golden stays true to his Cover 1 man principles which could leave the Fighting Irish vulnerable in the run game, or will he switch things up and play more zone which could leave the middle of the field open.
