First baby Pipevine Swallowtail caterpillars this spring!

It was exciting to find baby Pipevine Swallowtail caterpillars on our White-veined Dutchman's Pipevine host plant this spring! We specifically grow the Wooly Dutchman's Pipevine (Aristolochia tomentosa) and the White-Veined Dutchman's Pipevine (Aristolochia fimbriata) for the sole purpose of feeding caterpillars. The White-Veined plant is a ground cover and the Wooly plant is a climber. We purchased the Wooly Dutchman's Pipe from Joyful Butterfly and the White-Veined Dutchman's Pipe from our local native plants nursery. We planted both of these in 2022.
