About the simplest small vertical antenna for the top 5 HF bands you could make to fit onto a pier or balcony railing. Main parts:
* Fishing rod, 2.2m long
* 2.2m of electrical wire (eg from an old extension cord)
* Plastic Chopping board
* U-bolt to fit railing
* 30-40cm of plastic conduit to fit fishing rod handle
* Air spaced coil - 15 turns, 45mm diameter, 8uH with tapping points at least every 1/2 turn.
* Alligator clip
