Get ready for an unforgettable journey through one of the most awe-inspiring landscapes on Earth—the Grand Canyon! On September 21, four friends set out on a thrilling 5-day backpacking adventure, venturing deep below the rim to explore the hidden wonders of this iconic natural wonder.
We kicked off our journey bright and early at 6 AM from the South Kaibab Trailhead. Along the way, we took breaks at stunning viewpoints like Ooh Aah Point, Cedar Ridge, and the Tip-off to soak in the views and recharge for the trek ahead. By noon, we arrived at our first camp, Bright Angel Campground, where we spent two nights. After cooling off with a swim in the Colorado River at Boat Beach, we headed to Phantom Ranch for beers and a well-deserved steak dinner.
The next day, we journeyed through the Box—a section of the trail that’s best tackled early in the morning—towards Ribbon Falls and onward to Cottonwood Campground. From there, we made the climb from Cottonwood to the North Rim, trekking in the dark with headlamps after an exhausting ascent. Our final destination was Havasupai Garden, where we took a refreshing swim at the River Resthouse before starting the tough climb out of the canyon the following morning.
Completing this epic hike was both exhilarating and bittersweet. We felt an overwhelming sense of accomplishment, but also a pang of sadness knowing that the months of preparation had come to an end. The Grand Canyon is, without a doubt, one of the most beautiful places we’ve ever seen, and we highly recommend this unforgettable experience to anyone who loves hiking, backpacking, and outdoor adventure.
