Hatsu Tenjin was held at Kitano Tenmangu Shrine on January 25, 2025
On the 25th of every month, in honor of the birthday or anniversary of the death of Sugawara Michizane, Kitano Tenmangu Shrine holds the Tenjin Market, a fair where many stalls line the entire precincts of the shrine.
Tenjin-shi is said to be one of the two biggest antique markets in Kyoto, along with Kobo-shi at To-ji Temple in Kyoto.
The first fair of the year, “Hatsu Tenjin”, is a fun event with many stalls selling antiques, antiques, pickles, gourmet foods, kimonos, and more.
