VMF-247 sails for Cactus Airfield on Guadalcanal when Cactus base calls for an air strike led by the new, tough commander Major Dan Kirby (John Wayne). While in the middle of a dogfight, Simmons peels off and goes rogue before going missing. When he shows up, victorious after a kill, Major Kirby is none too pleased.
