Inivalappil Mani Vijayan, fondly known as Kalo Harin (Blackbuck), is one of India's most iconic football players. Born on April 25, 1969, Vijayan was a prolific striker and a key figure in Indian football, especially in the late nineties and early 2000s. He also had the honor of captaining the Indian national football team. Starting his career with Kerala Police FC, Vijayan rose to prominence in domestic football, becoming one of the most respected names in the sport. His partnership with Bhaichung Bhutia formed a formidable attacking duo for India, helping the team reach new heights. Vijayan's remarkable career includes scoring one of the fastest international goals (in just 12 seconds) during the 1999 SAF Games against Bhutan. Despite receiving offers from clubs in Malaysia and Thailand, Vijayan chose to spend his entire career playing in India. He earned recognition not only for his athleticism but also for his leadership, captaining the Indian team from 2000 to 2004. By the end of his career, he had scored 29 international goals in 72 matches for India. After retiring from football, Vijayan established a football academy in his hometown to nurture young talent. In addition to his football career, he also ventured into acting, starring in several movies, including Mmmmm, which was shortlisted for India's entry to the 93rd Academy Awards. Vijayan's contributions to Indian football have been recognized with prestigious awards, including the Arjuna Award in 2003 and the Padma Shri in 2025. #ManiVijayan #IndianFootball #KaloHarin #FootballLegend #BhaichungBhutia #IndiaNationalTeam #ArjunaAward #PadmaShri #FootballAcademy #Mmmmm #IndianSports
