The complete history of the EXP - The idea the EXP came from the company's marketing research. The growing number of one- and two-person households, combined with the lifestyle of the younger target audience who desired a small sporty car, led Ford to believe that Americans wanted a something like the EXP. It was to be a personal vehicle for two people with a cargo area in back. Ford expected to build and sell 200,000 EXPs and 70,000 Mercury LN7s in the 1982 model year.
