The Friendship birthday quilt is going on the rails today! Pieced backing and all - this is a unique and fun free motion quilting project, for sure!
You may remember I had a birthday a few weeks ago, and a group of my students and friends from around the world presented me with this AMAZING friendship quilt with their handwritten names in the blocks.
We tried really hard to air that presentation…it was a bit of a disaster from a tech standpoint…but the birthday was still grand, and the quilt is BEAUTIFUL! Many thanks to Joan Parker (@shelby_stitcher) who was at the helm of the entire project❤️
It is quite large, so I won't complete the whole thing in one stint, but it does have a pieced backing, so topics will include:
- using a pieced backing, and figuring out how to place the quilt top intentionally
- loading with that placement in mind
- choosing thread for a very multi-color quilt
- and of course, the freemotion quilting
