Welcome to our FreeCAD tutorial series, in this episode we dive into the powerful non-planar attachment methods. We’ll be creating a light fitting model, using advanced tools within Part Design to add features like threaded holes and circular patterns along a curved surface.
🔴 Highlights of This Lesson:
- Mastering non-planar attachment for curved shapes.
- Introduction to the Part Design Hole and Circular Pattern tools in FreeCAD
- Aligning sketches on curved surfaces with map mode adjustments
- Using Revolve operations for base shape creation
- Implementing threaded holes and duplicating them with Polar Pattern
Here’s What You’ll Learn:
Setting Up:
We’ll start with a sketch of a quarter profile, using the XZ plane in Part Design. Learn the benefits of using the polyline and fillet tools to form your initial shapes.
Creating the Base Shape:
Use the revolve tool to shape the model and remove extra material.
Aligning the Hole:
Follow our step-by-step guide to align holes along a circular surface using map modes, sketch offsets, and the correct alignment options.
Duplicating Features with Polar Pattern:
Quickly replicate the hole feature around the model's circumference with the polar pattern tool.
Adding Final Touches:
Learn to create additional holes on flat surfaces without extra sketches and control hole parameters like threading and tapering.
This is for FreeCAD version 1 also known as 0.22, 1.0 CR.
