Onion soup is a basic french dish that we cook at home quite often. In restaurants it is usually served in a special soup bowl called tête de lion - lion's head. I will show in this video how to make an easy home-made onion soup version even if you don't have this heat resistant bowl Onion soup ingredients for 2-3 portions: - 300 g (10.6 oz) onion - 3 tbs oil - 50 g (1.8 oz) butter - optionally 50 ml (1.7 fl.oz) madere / dry red wine / porto - around 600 ml - 1 l (20.3-33.8 fl oz) / beef or veal stock - dry bread - 100 g (3.5 oz) hard cheese - thyme - bay leaf - optionally garlic Recipe: ✔ Slice onion half rings ✔ Start frying at high temperature ✔ When it starts getting darker, add salt, thyme, bay leaf, lower the temperature and fry covered for at least 20 minutes ✔ Add madere or wine, deglaze pan (simply release caramelised bits stuck to bottom) ✔ Add stock and boil uncovered for at least 25 minutes, can be up to 2 hours Dressing 1 if you have heat resistant bowl for the oven: ✔ Put soup in a bowl ✔ Put dry piece of bread on top to cover fully the surface ✔ Add lots of cheese ✔ Bake it in the oven for 3-5 minutes at highest temperature Dressing 2 in a plate in you DON'T have heat resistant bowl for the oven: ✔ Put lots of cheese on each piece of dry bread ✔ Bake it in the oven for 5-7 minutes at highest temperature ✔ Serve bread immidiately in a plate with a very hot soup ⏳ TIMESTAMPS: 0:00 onion soup eating traditions in France 1:27 what you need for onion soup 1:57 preparing onion 6:09 secret 1 8:21 secret 2 9:49 traditional bowl for onion soup 10:36 cheese and bread 12:55 tasting 🙂 Subscribe to this channel, share my videos with friends and let's chat in comments SUBSCRIPTION LINK https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCMNH4WYGIGcB1hJ4NJ-h_0Q/videos If you've already subscribed, press a bell 🔔and you will know first when new recipe is coming #ChefVivien #OnionSoup #FrenchRecipe
