From 91 Octane to 87 Octane - 1/2 Inch Oil Rise - 2017 Honda CR-V - #3

Control of Knock in a turbo charged vehicle is, historically, controlled with lower compression compared to naturally aspirated engines. Besides compression designed into the engine, lowering boost levels, increasing octane requirements in fuel, retard timing, and finally management of fueling to the cylinder interact on whether a vehicle will knock under boost. I document over the course of three videos my oil dilution problem with my 2017 Honda CRV 1.5T engine. It appears this problem is not necessarily wide spread, or varies in severity amongst other vehicles and owners. Usage of 91 octane virtually eliminated my vehicles oil dilution problem which brings up several important questions that leads to my suspicion of Knock management. Is knock occurring and related to my driving habits? Is knocked detected because of a hardware problem whether that be a sensor or noisy engine? By using 87 octane does engine management move to an increased fueling scenario to deal with detected knock? Does switching to 91 octane satisfy and temper the knock situation thus lowering fueling situation that ultimately leads to oil dilution? Is the vehicle ultimately operating as designed?
