Puriya is an important and deeply characteristic raga for the Kirana gharana disciples of Pt. Sawai Gandharv. It was beloved raga for Gangubai-ji and Pt Bhimsen Joshi. It seemed a staple in their concert repertoire. The talim from their guru included an emphasis on Puriya, Todi and Multani. Their mastery of these evolved from this talim and their subsequent riyaaz to then shed light on the definiteness of distinctions and delicacy of the common connections between these ragas.
