Some mathematicians changed the field of mathematics at a young age, only to die too early. Let us look at the lives of some of these young, brilliant minds who left too soon. Evariste Galois was a French mathematician who laid the foundations of abstract algebra and Galois theory, proving the quintic's insolubility. Srinivasa Ramanujan was an Indian mathematician who, upon his genius being discovered by number theorist G.H. Hardy, went on to discover numerous incredible and novel theorems, formulas, techniques, and so on. Yukata Taniyama was a Japanese mathematician who discovered a connection between elliptic curves and modular forms via the Taniyama-Shimura conjecture (now known as the Modularity Theorem) which was crucial in Andrew Wiles's proof of Fermat's Last Theorem. Alan Turing was a British mathematician who created Turing machines and founded the field of computability theory, applying these abstract ideas to cracking German Enigma codes during World War II.
