GERMAN GIGANT: Bundeswehr Most Powerful Tank Transporter HX81 - V8 Engine with 680 horsepower | WELT Documentary
The HX81 is the German Bundeswehr's most powerful transport vehicle. With its 680 hp V8 diesel engine and all-wheel drive on eight wheels, it can handle even the most difficult terrain. The vehicle, which is manufactured in Vienna, is over ten meters long and weighs 23 tons when empty. When combined with a semi-trailer, the total weight can reach up to 130 tons. Thanks to two winches, each with a pulling force of 25 tons, the HX81 can also recover and safely load defective battle tanks.
Since 2021, the vehicle has been in use by the Austrian 14th Armored Battalion, which uses it as a heavy-duty transport system for payloads of up to 70 tons. Up to 50 units are produced annually. Thanks to its modular design, the HX81 can be quickly adapted to different threat scenarios, including an armored cab. With its special equipment, it is indispensable for military transport worldwide.
