Ghosta (Arabic: غوسطا; also spelled Ghusta) is a municipality in the Keserwan District of the Mount Lebanon Governorate of Lebanon. It is located 36 kilometers north of Beirut. Ghosta's average elevation is 950 meters above sea level and its total land area is 461 hectares. Its inhabitants are predominantly Maronite Catholics.
Ghosta has three schools, two private and one public, with a total of 772 students as of 2008. As of 2008, there were eleven companies with at least five employees operating in the village. It is home to the Congregation of Maronite Lebanese Missionaries and its main monastery, and the birthplace of Lebanese pioneer painter, Daoud Corm (1852 – 1930) and of pioneer Lebanese journalist, Philippe Ziade (1909–2005)
.
Latin origin, "Augusta" which would refer to the emperor Augustus, or Syriac, "Gousto", meaning "shelter"
The village of Ghosta stands proud on a hillside of Keserwan’s mountain. Like an eagle’s nest perched in a preserved nature, it plunges steeply over the sea and offers a breathtaking panoramic view of the Jounieh bay and the coastal villages. Its beautiful stone houses and its old monuments, such as the 17th-century Ain Warka school or the historic Kreim monastery, trace the history of the Maronites in Mount Lebanon. Despite a rapidly urbanizing environment, a simple stroll along its tree-lined streets and its charming staircases fills one’s senses with delight and tranquility.
