Administering oral medications to a dog. For giving a pill, push on the lips to get the dog to open his mouth. Put the pill on the back of the tongue. Then blow in the nose and rub on the throat to get him to swallow.
Using an unfamiliar surfaces gives you an advantage. Trying to give medications on the couch, bed or other dog familiar territory gives the dog the advantage.
For liquid administration: Hold the head up, open the cheek pouch and drip the liquid in slowly. Don't put it directly on the tongue.
