Glen Campbell was born April 22, 1938 in Delight, Arkansas the seventh son of a seventh son born into a musical family. He got his first guitar from the Sears & Roebuck catalog at the age of four and within two years was playing live on local radio shows.
Glen enjoyed all kinds of music, from Nat King Cole to Frank Sinatra to Django Reinhardt. In his teens he joined his uncle's band and then left to form his own band Glen Campbell and The Western Wranglers moving to Los Angeles where he became an in demand session guitarist playing on 586 sessions in one year! This takes him to 1965 when he was invited to tour with the Beach Boys.
By this time he was enjoying radio hits like "By The Time I Get To Phoenix" and his signature hit "Gentle On My Mind" performing often for TV especially the Smothers Brothers. He was so successful he was given his own show that lasted for three seasons. He also became a movie star in True Grit with John Wayne.
Allen Toussaint is a New Orleans based producer/writer/performer who wrote and produced Ernie K Doe's #1 hit, "Mother In Law" and then produced Labelle's "Lady Marmalade" another #1 hit. He recorded the original Southern Nights in 1975 and released it. Campbell heard the song and recorded his own version and got a #1 pop hit out of it. It became his last Top 10 hit. But oh those Southern Nights!
