Three years after Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine, world leaders are pushing harder than ever for a permanent ceasefire. Vincent McAviney looks at the high-stakes summit in Ukraine aimed at ending the war, what Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is pledging and the issues still needing to be resolved in peace talks.

Pope Francis is still in critical condition battling double pneumonia, but "the night went well; the pope slept and is resting," the Vatican said in a statement on Monday. As Jeff Semple reports, the 88-year-old pontiff was still able to dome some work from his hospital bed.

The far-right, anti-immigrant, and Islamophobic Alternative for Germany (AfD) party didn't win Germany's snap election, but it made significant gains with 20.8 per cent of the vote.
