A recent study on sex trafficking in Goa has highlighted key trends, revealing that most women forced into the trade come from "source states" such as Maharashtra, West Bengal, Delhi, and Uttar Pradesh. Additionally, Nepal and Bangladesh remain the primary "source countries" for cross-border trafficking, while East African nations, including Uganda and Kenya, are emerging as significant "source regions."
The study, titled *Report on Commercial Sexual Exploitation in Goa – Situation and Intervention (2019-2024), was conducted by the NGO Anyay Rahit Zindagi (Arz) in collaboration with the Goa Police. Released on Wednesday at an international consultation event in Panaji, attended by Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, the report analyzed data from 75 rescue operations carried out by the Goa Police between June 2019 and July 2024.
