多くのPCエンジンユーザーが嫉妬したメガドライブ版のゴールデンアックス！
アーケードの4分の1のROM容量ながら、オリジナルステージの追加とデュエルモードの搭載、
エンディングもオリジナルの長尺の物が収録されています。
ROM容量の問題でカットされがちな、キャラクターボイス、オープニングのキャラクター紹介、キャラクター選択画面のドクロも再現されています。驚きです。正に魔法がかかった様な移植です。
4Mbitに詰め込む為にデータを圧縮しているみたいで、解凍する為にゲーム中に一瞬止まります。
背景のドット絵は雰囲気を損なう事が無いように上手く簡略化されており、キャラクターのドット絵も素晴らしいです。
配色に関しては、アーケードの淡い色合いでは無く、濃い色が使われていて、
64色4パレットしか使えないメガドライブでも工夫して再現していますね。
サウンドもFM音源の特色を生かし良い感じで再現されています。
しかし良い作品はいつ見ても色あせないですね。
メガドライブのポテンシャルと、制作スタッフの技術とセンスが垣間見える素晴らしい移植でした。
メガドライブはもっと評価されても良いゲーム機だったかもれない。

The background pixel art is well simplified so as not to spoil the atmosphere, and the character pixel art is also wonderful.
As for the color scheme, dark colors are used instead of the lighter shades of the arcade.
Even with the Mega Drive, which can only use 4 palettes of 64 colors, they have devised ways to reproduce it.
The sound is also well reproduced, taking advantage of the characteristics of the FM sound source.
However, good works never fade no matter how many times I see them.
It was a wonderful port that gave us a glimpse of the potential of the Mega Drive and the skill and sense of the production staff.
The Mega Drive may have been a better game console that deserved more praise.
