Good Cars Don't Always Sell, And That's A Shame | 2022 Kia Stinger Review

If you're shopping for a loaded Camry, Accord, Avalon or Maxima, you should quite simply buy a Stinger instead. It's more fun to drive, has a bigger trunk, and you can get it with all wheel drive. If you're TLX or Q50 shopping, you should give the 3.3L twin-turbo Stinger a look, because you'll get more for less. Sadly however the reality is a $40,000-$50,000 sports sedan with a Kia logo is destined to be a great landing at the wrong airport. Pity. Price-wise, the Stinger landed between the Cadenza, a Toyota Avalon competitor, and the K900, a seriously luxurious and sporty BMW 5-series competitor. With both of those models now eliminated from the U.S. lineup, the Stinger serves as the brand’s flagship. Let’s cover the updates that materialized for the 2022 model year. Unlike its platform mate, the Genesis G70, the Stinger’s base 2.0L turbo 4 with 250 hp has been replaced by the excellent 2.5L turbo 4 cylinder seen in other Hyundai/Kia/Genesis products, including but not limited to the Sonata N-Line, K5 GT, Santa Cruz, and GV70. In this application it produces 300 hp and 311 lb-ft of torque but sticks with the previous 8-speed torque-converter automatic. Ironically, the Stinger we are taking a look at is actually another GT, which uses the carryover 3.3L twin-turbo V6. It sees a modest +3 hp bump to 368 hp thanks to a new variable exhaust system. Visual upgrades include the inclusion of Kia’s sleek, modern and metallic new logo, a larger 10.25” infotainment system, new alloy wheel designs, a redesigned full-width LED taillight array, and a new front LED DRL design for trims below the GT2. This HiChroma Red Stinger is that top of the line GT2 trim, hence why the DRLs are unchanged. What isn’t new is the Stinger’s ability to prioritize practicality and smiles-per-mile, with handling that truly rivals some of the German competitors Kia originally targeted at launch. #Kia #Stinger #KiaStinger #KiaStingerGT #StingerGT #GT #rearwheeldrive #RWD #allwheeldrive #AWD #sportback #2022 #2022Stinger #twinturbo #V6 #Hyundai #Genesis #GenesisG70 #G70 #Acura #AcuraTLX #TLX #TLXshawd #Audi #AudiA5sportback #A5sportback #sedan #hatchback #liftback #performance 00:00-01:15 Introduction 01:15-01:52 Front Exterior Styling 01:52-03:13 Size 03:13-03:37 Side Exterior Details 03:37-4:08 Rear Exterior Styling 04:08-05:00 Model Position 05:00-05:38 Safety Features 05:38-07:34 Powertrains 07:34-08:02 Front Seat Comfort 08:02-09:21 Rear Seat Comfort 09:21-10:24 Cargo Space 10:24-15:04 Front Seat Amenities 15:04-15:14 Driving Impressions 15:14-15:44 Acceleration 15:44-16:16 Braking 16:16-16:52 Competition 16:52-18:22 Handling 18:22-19:06 Ride 19:06-19:34 Cabin Noise 19:34-19:57 Fuel Economy 19:57-22:11 Pricing 22:11-23:49 Competitor: Volkswagen Arteon 23:49-24:59 Competitor: Dodge Charger 24:59-26:39 Competitor: Acura TLX 26:39-27:55 Competitor: Audi A5 Sportback 27:55-28:26 Bottom Line 28:26-29:23 Final Thoughts 29:23-30:29 Sign Off
