වර්ෂ 1820 ත් 1830 ත් අතර කාලයේ දී මහාවංශය සමාජගත වීමෙන් පසු එහි සඳහන් වී තිබූ පරිදි බුදුන් උපන් දඹදිව දේශය යනු හෙළදීපයේ කොටසක් බවත් ඉංග්‍රීසි ලේඛකයන් රාජකීය ආසියාතික සංගමය මගින් ප්‍රකාශයට පත් කළ සඟරාවට (JOURNAL OF THE CEYLON BRANCH OF THE ROYAL ASIATIC SOCIETY) ලියා ඇත.කෙසේ නමුත් මහාවංශයෙහි සඳහන් ස්ථාන සොයා ගැනීම සඳහා අවශ්‍ය පුරාවිද්‍යා කැණීම් සිදුකළ හැකි කණ්ඩායමක් එම කාල වකවානුවේදී හෙළද්වීපයේ ස්ථාපිත කර නොතිබූ නි.බ්‍රිතාන්‍ය ජාතික ජේම්ස් ප්‍රින්සෙප් පුරාණ ලෝහ කාසි වල කොටා ඇති අක්ෂර සම්භන්ධව ද උනන්දුවකින් කටයුතු කර ඇත. මෙම කාල වකවානුවේ දී ඔහුට ඉන්දියාවේ දිල්ලියේ පිහිටා ඇති ස්ථම්භයක (දීල්ලි තොප්රා අශෝක ස්ථම්භය) කොටා ඇති පුරාණ අක්ෂර නිවැරදිව කියවා ගැණීමට අවශ්‍ය වී ඇත.ඉන්දියාවේ පුරාවිද්‍යා කොමසාරිස් වු ඇලෙක්සැන්ඩර් කනින්ග්හැම් (ALEXANDER CUNNINGHAM) හට භාර දී ඇත.
