Graham Norton has spent years interviewing some of the biggest stars in entertainment, creating some of the most memorable moments in television history. While many guests have been engaging, witty, and eager to participate, others have made his job far more difficult. Mark Wahlberg’s appearance in 2013 remains one of the most chaotic, as he arrived visibly drunk, interrupted fellow guests, and even sat on Norton’s lap, making for an uncomfortable experience. Mickey Rourke, on the other hand, was disinterested to the point of making conversation nearly impossible, giving vague, short answers and showing little enthusiasm.

Kevin Costner struggled in a different way, failing to match the show’s lighthearted energy. His serious demeanor and inability to pick up on jokes made for an awkward interview, forcing Norton to work harder to keep the atmosphere from falling flat. Robert De Niro, despite his legendary status, proved to be one of the most difficult interviews due to his minimal responses, leaving Norton carrying the conversation almost entirely on his own. The most uncomfortable guest in hindsight was Harvey Weinstein, whose arrogance and controlling behavior made for an unpleasant experience long before his reputation was publicly dismantled.
However, the guest Norton has openly called his worst was Daryl Hannah, who refused to engage at all. With one-word answers and long silences, she left Norton with nowhere to go, making for an excruciatingly awkward segment. In contrast, some stars have been a delight to interview. Tom Cruise brings boundless energy, Lady Gaga embraces the fun of the show, and Julia Roberts exudes warmth and charm, making Norton’s job effortless. The contrast between the best and worst guests highlights what makes his show successful—those who embrace the unpredictable nature of live conversation create the most memorable moments.
