Halva is a traditional food among Greek Orthodox who have food restrictions over the lent
In Greece, It is also called grocer's halva (ο χαλβας του μπακαλη)
In Turkey it is one of the oldest sweets and had a special place in the cuisine of the sultans.
It came to Greece in 1922, by Greek refugees from Asia Minor who knew the art of making it.
