On New Years Day 2012, taxi driver Michael Atherton shoots dead his partner Susan McGoldrick, Her sister Alison Turnbull and Alison's daughter Tanya, before shooting himself in Horden, County Durham. Atherton shot Susan in front of her daughter Laura and tried to shoot Laure but she escaped. Atherton had a history of domestic violence towards Susan and acted when she broke up with him and started a new life. This is the story of close family destroyed by the actions of one man. Those left behind are still coming to terms with what happened and are campaigning for a change in gun licensing laws as Atherton was allowed to keep 6 guns in the family home, despite his previous domestic violence.
