Abstract: Car keys, garage door openers, Wi-Fi networks and your phone depend on wireless communication to make your life easier, but have you considered who else might be listening to your keyless entry signal? Join me as we look at the wireless channel, explore attacks leveraging the physical layer, and understand what makes them possible. By the end of this talk, you should know some of the basics of radio communication, how specific radio-based attacks work, what hardware and software might be used, and how we can defend systems against them. Speaker Bio: Mark Megarry; PhD student investigating the security of 6G radio access networks I’m currently working on my PhD project focused on the security of 6G radio access networks, and my background is in electrical and electronic engineering. I focused on wireless communications near the end of my undergraduate degree and have been interested in the security of physical devices for some time, so I aim to deliver an interesting talk on security and wireless channels. #bsides #securitybsides #infosec #bsidesbelfast #belfast #bsidesbelfast24
