"Hadith al-Kisa is the term used to describe the tradition narrated about the virtues of the Prophet Muhammad, Ali, Fatimah, Hasan, and Hussein (peace be upon them). This incident took place in the house of Umm al-Mu'minin Umm Salma, the wife of the Prophet. At the time of the revelation of the Verse of Purification, the Prophet was covered in a cloak, and Imam Ali, Fatimah, Imam Hasan, and Imam Hussein (peace be upon them) were also present under the cloak. This cloak is referred to as "Kisa". The Shia Imams have repeatedly cited this tradition to prove their own virtues and the right of the Imams to the caliphate, and to establish their authority over the Muslim community."
