Happiness Is Just A State of Mind
There’s an ache in the heart but, no pain
Like clouds in the sky but with no signs of rain,
It’s strange how often and how easily
We all smile and, sadly, happiness feign
But, happiness does in the heart lie
It wears no look, smiling or wry
And, just as the mirror reflects what it sees
The heart, too, does not lie.
For, life’s like the river that gently flows
Then, at the turns its anger shows,
Storms and typhoons that lash the shore
Then again, in seeming repentance, gently flows,
Like a smile does not, always, happiness reveal
The ship of life, too, not always on even keel
But, there’s a balm around the corner that awaits
And, the knowledge that wounds take time but heal.
Happiness, then, is truly a state of mind
Where the norm’s acceptance, all else left behind,
The vagaries of life, its seasons all
Where nothing’s felt to be too unkind.
