So basically breathing techniques were basically a vision in the past.
So after the defeat of celestia, visions don't work anymore and particularly disappear from those who have visions, but because some people desire power they study and learned to make them and they did accomplish having powers with no visions they called it "breathing techniques" but it was so weaker than visions that they gave up about making it stronger and it particularly died down.
After 1000 years and Demons start to exist, Yoriichi found a book about the past (Visions and rip-off visions) he starts to study "breathing techniques" to try if this power can kill demons and it did work yet he can't do any of the breathing techniques in the book so he starts to make his own one the "sun breathing" after this he tells this to his older twin brother Michikatsu and and his brother make his own breathing technique Called "moon breathing". Yoriichi then started to teach other people these techniques and it was successful, they even did make it stronger than in the past.
