My Brother in Spokane is a new General Ham and I've enjoyed talking across the State to him in the evenings. Only problem is, it's difficult to hear him clearly with the 100 watts of power he is using.
I dug into my Heathkit junk box and found enough to piece together an SB 220 Linear from the remains of several SB 220's and SB 221's that I've acquired over the years.
There is nothing special about this video. It will take you on a 45 minute, meandering journey as I address the needs of this once operational unit while it also takes a pretty close look at the component level of the SB 220.
The video was made for my Brother but I don't see why it shouldn't be shared in case there is something that might be useful to others who might be doing similar restoration work.
Currently the unit puts out 800 watts PEP with one Power Tube.
It works fine with two but, I only have one to give him.
His antenna also is limited to no more than 1000 watts PEP, so, I am sending it over with one, like new, Eimac 3-500 power tube.
New tubes run almost 200.00 a piece from China.
New Eimac 3-500Z tubes are pretty much unavailable.
