The Heliodorus pillar or Khamb Baba is a stone column that was erected around 113 BCE in central India in Besnagar (near Vidisha, Madhya Pradesh).
The pillar was erected by Heliodorus who was the ambassador of the Indo Greek King, Antialcidus from Taxila. He had heard about the Prosperity of Vidisha, it’s merchants and the riches. He came to meet the then ruling king Bhagabhadra of the Shunga Dynasty.
Heliodorus was influenced by the Hindu Dharma. He was the first westerner to convert to Vaishnavism. He built this Vishnu Stamba at this place about 2200 years ago. It is very close to the Sanchi Stupa and Udaygiri caves.
