In this episode I provide the history of the AMC Hornet, the second of three car companies to use this model name. It originated with the Hudson Hornet, but that model ended when the Hudson brand merged with Nash to become American Motors. AMC got the rights to all the Hudson and Nash model names, so they used the Hornet name on a compact model that competed with the Ford Maverick, another car that had its name recycled twice as well, but all within Ford. After Chrysler bought AMC in 1987, the Hornet name strayed dormant until it was used as a concept for Dodge in 2006, and then a production model in 2023, where it is a rebadge of the Alfa Romeo Tonale.
