It seems tempting to just get a parawing or FD and go DWding.
And many of you should. This is NOT a dig on alternative ways of DWding. It's about what is the BEST way to partake in DWding.
It's easier to learn and will be much quicker to get you up and riding using the parawing or FD or wing.
Like many things - sometimes the easy road is harder later. But the day will come where it's much much harder.
The argument i'd make is that you're opting for ease and missing out on a whole lot if you never learn to use the paddle.
Being far more dependent on conditions especially with the PW.
And one day .... the wind will die on you. And you'll have wished you'd chosen the hard road. Or you'll run out of battery.
I'm extremely suportive of people short cutting learning to DW. Foildrive, parawing, winging or even dockstart. I'm super supportive of all these methods but I encourage all of these methods with the end goal of learning to SUP DW.
I'd encourage everyone to aim for SUP DW as your end point. That's the point I'm wanting to make.
It just doesn't compare. All other versions of getting onto foil in the bumps are inferior to the paddle in my opinion.
The paddle - It's a tool to go faster, turn harder, fix mistakes, keep your balance off and safety in knowing you can get going in no wind.
I've had a lot of success on the parawing this week and I'll share that in my next video and I'll share some thoughts about how they contrast.
I totally understand that some people don't really want to fully commit to DW and for those - skipping the paddle entirely is understandable.
But for those who really want to give it a crack. Use the PW, or FD etc as a means to learn to read the bumps - so that when the time comes to learn to paddle up - there's more reward once you're up.
Enjoy!
