After far, far too long a hiatus, we're finally returning to our Tier List/Unit Power Analysis series, this time for Classic Heroscape's legendary Wave 2 expansion, Utgar's Rage. The units of Wave 2 are icons of Heroscape and I'm delighted we can finally cover them in obsessive, long-winded form here.
As the delay in getting this to you may suggest, this episode was beset with problems throughout its entire production. For one, as famous as the units of Utgar's Rage are, I found many of them challenging to write about, partly because I wasn't sure how much new could be said about them, and partly because they integrate with so many other units I also felt needed some mention during their sections, which complicated the writing. That all led to some severe writer's block on sections of the script for this episode. Ironically, as you can tell by the runtime, even though I ran into that writer's block, I still ended up finding more to say about Wave 2 compared to Wave 1, even though Wave 2 has less units.
Second, and more significantly, I ran into major audio problems with recording. My first recording session, upon listening back to it, turned out horribly, and I had to scrap it all and redo the entire thing. I did eventually get decent quality audio, but my recording situation at the time, even after cleaning up the audio through some editing software I had, still picked up every loud inhalation I made as I was reading out my script. It was awful to listen to. And so, I had to manually cut out every single inhalation out of the nearly 3-hour audio you're hearing now. But I think the work was worth it for smoother listening. I'm hopeful these problems won't persist for future episodes, and can't wait to share my thoughts on the other waves to come.
