This video explored one of the most hidden elements of the Roman army; the largely taboo grey area of military marriages and families. For centuries after Augustus' reign, it was restricted and not permitted by the upper elite, who tried their best to dissuade it. On the contrary, marriage was largely pursued and favored by many soldiers, who despite their professional marriage-restricting career choice, could not escape the natural urge to find a life partner and start a family. This video hopes to shed more light on this social and political back and forth between the Roman Emperors and the common soldiers.
