I hiked alone on this mountain for two days , I started from Yakihashiri Trailhead going up to the summit and the next day going down to Nanataki Trailhead. I stay 1 night in the mountain at the shelter hut on the station 8 of Mt. Iwate. The course is very difficult and dangerous. I met a lot of Japanese at the mountains. In the shelter hut there is a person who manage, you need to pay 1,700 yen per night but that is very affordable not like other mountains they pay up to 10,000 yen. If you live in Iwate Prefecture and you love hiking this is for you. Please check down below all the information or visit the webiste https://www.env.go.jp/park/towada/hachimantai/en/course/course_008/index.html. There are many trailhead that you can choice to climb this mountain.
Sacred mountain with various shapes and diverse climbing trails.
Mt. Iwate, one of mountains representing Hachimatai region, has been familiar as a mountain of faith to people since ancient times, and it is popular with many climbers still today. It shows various scenes depending on angle of view. Also known as “Nanbu-Katafuji” (the Nanbu domain’s mountain with one side of the flank shape uniquely resembling Mt. Fuji), it is famous especially for its beautifully spreading skirt of the east ridge and the rugged west ridgeline.
On Mt. Iwate, there are seven unique climbing trails. The feature here is that a variety of climbing experiences can be enjoyed depending on how you combine climbing and descending routes. From the top, a whole view of wide-ranging Northern Tohoku region can be seen. And the numerous stone Buddha statues as well as the Inner Sanctuary of Iwatesan-jinja Shrine transmit a tradition of mountain worship to the present day.

YAKEHASIRI COURSE:
The course of the unspoiled primitive shapes of Yakehashiri Lava Flow and the communities of blooming Komakusa Dicentra
As a popular course along with Yanagisawa Course, the Yakehashiri Course has its entrance at Yakehashiri Lava Flow as its name suggest. At each of two vent sites along the course, you can have a superb panoramic view of the entire shape of lava flows and the whole Eastern Tohoku region.
After passing through a forest zone, one of the greatest Komakusa Dicentra communities appears. People also call their climbing at around late June, the best season for these flowers, as “Komakusa blossom viewing”.
In addition, from the points such as trailhead and the 8th Station, you can see the clear-cut shape of Mt. Iwate known as “Nanbu Fuji”.

NANATAKI COURSE:
The course with attractive dynamic landscapes such as Nanataki and Ojigokudani.
Starting from the Kenmin no Mori, the Nanataki Course is the one blessed with the most varied landscapes including waterfalls, Volcano valleys, marshlands, and crater lakes.
With its fall exceeding 20 m, the Nanataki waterfalls are so powerful. You can go on walking the ridge line along the stream while feeling the sound of cool water. The steep slope of Ojigokudani, from which steam gushes out, reminds us of that Mt. Iwate is an active volcano. In between Kenmin no Mori and Nanataki waterfalls, there are Mizunara Oak forests, and many flower fields are scattered around the area ahead of Ojigokudani Fork.
This is the longest course of all climbing trails of Mt. Iwate, but it is rewarding as there are so many spots worth to see.
