Himeji Castle, with its main buildings such as the castle tower and turrets built in the early Edo period, is designated as a national treasure and an important cultural property.
On December 11, 1993, it was registered as Japan's first World Heritage Site (cultural heritage) along with the Buddhist buildings in the Horyuji area.
It has also been selected as one of Japan's 100 Great Castles. (I got the 100 Great Castles stamp.)
It is also known as Hakuro Castle (Shirasagi Castle).
Tokugawa Ieyasu's granddaughter Senhime lost her first husband Toyotomi Hideyori in the Summer Siege of Osaka. After that, Senhime married Honda Tadakatsu, the grandson of Honda Heihachiro Tadakatsu, bringing with her a gift of 100,000 koku. It is said that Senhime's gift was used to build Nishinomaru.
