History at Home: Craftsman Farms and Montclair's Arts and Crafts Homes

Video Not Working? Fix It Now

The Stickley Museum at Craftsman Farms in Morris Plains is the former country home of Gustav Stickley, whose name has become synonymous with the Arts and Crafts movement in decorative arts, home building and furnishing styles. As their museum’s website says, “Stickley combined the roles of designer and manufacturer, architect, publisher, philosopher, and social critic. He is best known today for his straightforward furniture, sometimes called ‘mission’ or ‘Craftsman’ furniture.“ In this week’s History at Home, David Lowden not only shares his in-depth knowledge of the Craftsman style, he also includes a look at some of Montclair’s “true” Arts and Crafts homes.
