Vidkun Quisling, a name now synonymous with treason, rose to infamy as Norway's most notorious Nazi collaborator during World War II. Once a military officer and humanitarian, he turned to politics, founding a fascist party inspired by Hitler’s ideology. In 1940, Quisling betrayed his country by aiding Germany’s invasion, declaring himself prime minister and facilitating Nazi control of Norway. His regime was marked by brutal repression and his collaboration aiding the deportation of Norway's Jewish population. Ultimately, his actions led to his trial and execution, leaving behind a legacy of betrayal and national shame.
