Home-made chyavanprash (Amla Lehya) Ingredients : 1/2 kg Amla (Indian gooseberries) 1/2 kg Dried dates (khajoor) 100 gms (1 cup) raisins (kishmish) 1 1/2 cups jaggery powder 1/2 cup ghee 1 tbsp cumin (jeera) 1 tsp black pepper 5 cloves 2 inches cinnamon 1 tsp dry ginger powder 4-5 cardamom Preparation : In a pressure cooker steam cook amla (3 whistles). De-seed and grind it to a fine paste without adding water. Wash and soak dates for 2hrs. De-seed and grind it coarsely without adding water. Wash the raisins and keep aside. Dry roast jeera, pepper, cloves and cinnamon seperately. Add ginger powder and cardamom and grind to a fine powder. In a pan , add ghee and amla paste and mix it well. Cook for few minutes. Add dates paste and raisins. Mix well till the mixture absorbs ghee. Then add jaggery powder and keep on stirring. Once the jaggery gets dissolved completely and the ghee starts leaving sides, add masala powder and saute well. Cook until the whole mixtute turns out to form a lump. Cool it completely. Store the CHYAVANAPRASH or LEHYA in a glass jar. Store in the refrigerator preferably. HEALTH BENEFITS : ●AMLA : Rich source of vitamin C. Very good for hair growth. Removes dandruff.
